Forbes Bigs Up BoomBocs
Posted by Jonny Williams onBack in 2017, we launched the BoomBocs v2.0. This was a hand-built, extremely powerful speaker system that gained some great press coverage worldwide.
One of our favourite articles came from Forbes so we thought we'd share their words here:
Bluetooth Speaker from London Marks the Rebirth of the Boombox
"The boombox was a musical mainstay of the 1980s and 1990s. Now it looks like it could be making a comeback thanks to a young sound engineer from London.
BoomBocs is a new high-powered Bluetooth speaker system, delivering premium audio performance alongside edgy urban design. It's an entertainment system for playing music at home or on the move and has been designed and engineered in Brixton, South London.
The BoomBocs speaker system delivers a mighty 200W of Class-D digital amplification, which delivers music with minimal distortion, even at higher volume levels. Because it’s built around a Class-D amplifier, the BoomBocs can pump out massive sound without the weight you’d expect from a conventional speaker using a Class A/B amplifier.
At the heart of the Boombocs is a Bluetooth receiver using the advanced apt-X codec. Bluetooth apt-X offers near-CD quality sound using many tablets or smartphones. If Bluetooth isn't available on your device you can always connect via the auxiliary socket at the rear of the BoomBocs.
With these two input options Boombocs can be used to stream millions of tunes from music streaming services such as Spotify, TIDAL and Deezer, or you can play tracks stored directly on your laptop, tablet or smartphone.
Jonny Williams established Boombocs in the Brixton area of London in 2014. Previously, Jonny had a prestigious career touring as a sound engineer for some of the world’s biggest names in music, such as Liam Payne, Pendulum, All Saints and Kwabs. Jonny developed a passion for great sound and wanted to produce a great-looking portable speaker without the compromises sometimes found in mass-produced cabinet designs.
Each BoomBocs system is handcrafted in South London by a team of audio engineers. Because each BoomBocs is handmade, no two ever quite look the same. In a world dominated by mass production there may well be an appetite for a portable Bluetooth speaker that sounds good too."
